It is with a heavy heart that I write you all amidst these difficult times. As per the most recent directives from the CDC, the White House, and the Bishop’s office for the next 15 days we are not to have any gatherings of 10 or larger. For these next 15 days and/or until further notice all public celebrations of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass are canceled along with Friday Stations of the Cross with Adoration. I will continue to offer Masses privately for the intentions already taken, including the Sunday Masses.
As per the Bishop’s request and my own desires Saint Mary’s will remain open as a place of prayer. Precautions are continuing to be taken for the frequent disinfecting and sanitation of the contact surfaces such as doorknobs, countertops, and pews.
Ways to stay spiritually nourished and connected:
- I am currently working on provisions to be able to live stream daily and Sunday Masses via facebook which links will be posted on our website so that the faithful can either participate live or view at later times.
- I am also working on a schedule of times for dedicated prayer with exposition of The Blessed Sacrament in Adoration and dedicated times for Sacrament of Confession.
- Also in the works are ways to not only have either additional video reflections recorded and posted, but live stream times of Lenten reflections or Scripture studies where faithful could post questions or comments live to which I could respond.
- We will post these particular opportunities and how to access them on our website www.stmarymotherofgod.com and our facebook page at www.facebook.com/stmarysylva along with e-mail and Flocknote updates for those who have signed up.

This is truly a difficult time in our community, in our church, and in the world. We as a people are built for communion and as a people of faith who recognize and live in this reality more than the rest of the world we are in times like these more deeply affected as we are being prevented from coming together for the communal worship for which we are created. We are oriented towards this communal worship of Our God from the deepest levels of our being. When we cannot participate in this as we should, we lose an aspect of our very human identity. I especially as a priest and pastor feel this in the depths of my heart and soul, because by the very essence of my ordination I have been altered on the level of my very being by God’s grace to be oriented and directed toward the people of God to love, care, and sacrifice myself for you all. I am called to lead you all as my family into a deeper communion with God as a family. Now that we have been separated from one another as a result of the current circumstances it has placed is a deep sorrow, and void in my heart. I pray and long for a speedy passing of this time as well as the safe and healthy passing of this time for all. Know of my continued prayers for you all and all of your needs.
