My Dear Faithful of Saint Mary Mother of God,
As this time of COVID-19 Coronavirus continues and keeps us from one another know that as I continue to mention I miss you all and keep you all in my thoughts in prayers daily.
Holy Week begins this Sunday with the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord in Palm Sunday. This is going to be a very different and strange time for all of us. This is a difficult time for all of us, but we should remember that Our Lord is with us in the midst of it all. As Jesus entered into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he was preparing to celebrate the Last Supper
with his apostles and undergo his passion. As the emotion and angst grows within each of us, we can unite it to the similar emotions and thoughts that must have accompanied our Lord during this very time.
We are in the process of making available as many resources as we can to enable everyone to participate from home in the Holy Week Liturgies.
Palm Sunday
We will have our normal Livestream schedule for Saturday and Sunday.
Blessed Palm Pickup
Sunday afternoon from 1pm-4pm or until all blessed palms have been given out, we will have a drive-thru pick up of the Blessed Palms. There will be a limit of 2 palms per person; for example if one person is picking up for a household of 5 they would get a max of 10 palm fronds.
Pastoral Visits/Home Visits for Pastoral Need:
I mentioned at the end of Mass on Sunday that if anyone is in need of a pastoral visit to call the office. I will make visits to anoint the sick. What this means is that if any of our elderly who may be sick or anyone who has a severe illness especially those who fall in the “at risk” category, or in the unfortunate circumstance that any of our parishioners should fall ill with the Coronavirus I would make a visit to celebrate the sacraments. If for any reason some because of circumstance either at risk and cannot go out, or just lack the ability to travel because of health or age and would like to go to confession I will come and make a pastoral visit. If anyone should have any questions about this, please contact the office at 828-586-9496.
Facebook Livestream Access:
It is not necessary to have a Facebook account to watch the livestream of Mass or events from St. Mary’s Facebook page. Anyone can watch the livestream by going online to www.facebook.com/stmarysylva and scrolling down until you are able to see the Livestream broadcast of the liturgy/event. Occasionally there may be a few technical difficulties on our end, to get the broadcast up and running so please continue to be patient with us we are all still very new and are doing everything we can to make the livestream as error free as we are technically capable.
Recent Stay at Home order March 30-April 29th and St. Mary’s daily operation
The “Stay at Home” declaration that is in effect until April 29th will not restrict anyone’s ability to come to the church and pray and it will not affect my ability to continue to offer the Sacrament of Penance via our current Drive-in Confessions that we are having Mon., Wed., Thurs., Fri., and Sat. from 5-6pm on the patio.
The Church will be open for prayer from 7am-8pm daily with the exception when we are live streaming the Masses. We appreciate your patience and cooperation. We also ask that people observe that there are not more than 10 people in the church building at any one time and that everyone including families coming to pray observe social distancing while in the church praying. There will be disinfectant wipes available and we ask that each person please wipe down their pew space before and after praying and dispose of the wipe in the trash receptacle provided.
Office operations:
Essential office operations will happen a few times a week, i.e. answering of USPS mail and necessary financial operations. Everything else can be done remotely including the answering of phones. One of the many benefits of the recent office move with internet and phone system upgrades is it has made us very adaptable to the current difficulties we have encountered. So if there are questions and concerns please do not hesitate to call or email. If we don’t answer the phone call directly, please leave a detailed message and we will return the call as soon as possible. If anyone needs to meet, we are currently employing video conferencing via zoom video conferencing.

Mientras este tiempo de COVID-19 Coronavirus continúa y nos separa unos de otros, sepan que mientras continúo mencionando, los extraño a todos y los mantengo a todos en mis pensamientos en las oraciones diarias.
La Semana Santa comienza este domingo con la Celebración de la Pasión del Señor en el Domingo de Ramos. Este será un momento muy diferente y extraño para todos nosotros. Este es un momento difícil para todos nosotros, pero debemos recordar que Nuestro Señor está con nosotros en medio de todo. Cuando Jesús entró en Jerusalén el Domingo de Ramos, se estaba preparando para celebrar la Última Cena con sus apóstoles y experimentar su pasión. A medida que la emoción y la angustia crecen dentro de cada uno de nosotros, podemos unirlo a las emociones y pensamientos similares que deben haber acompañado a nuestro Señor durante este mismo tiempo. Estamos en el proceso de poner a disposición tantos recursos como podamos para que todos puedan participar desde su hogar en las Liturgias de Semana Santa.
Domingo de palma:
Tendremos nuestro horario normal de transmisión en vivo para el sábado y el domingo
Recogida de la palma bendecida
• El domingo por la tarde de 1-4pm o hasta que se hayan entregado todas las palmas bendecidas, tendremos una recogida en automóvil de las Palmas Benditas.
• Habrá un límite de 2 palmas por persona, por ejemplo, si una persona está recogiendo para un hogar de 5, obtendrían un máximo de 10 hojas de palma.
Visitas Pastorales / Visitas Domiciliarias para Necesidades Pastorales:
Al final de la misa del domingo, mencioné que si alguien necesita una visita pastoral para llamar a la oficina. Haré visitas para ungir a los enfermos. Lo que esto significa es que si alguno de nuestros ancianos puede estar enfermo o cualquier persona que tenga una enfermedad grave, especialmente aquellos que caen en la categoría de “riesgo”, o en la desafortunada circunstancia de que alguno de nuestros feligreses debería enfermarse con el Coronavirus I haría una visita para celebrar los sacramentos. Si por alguna razón, por alguna circunstancia, está en riesgo y no puede salir, o simplemente carece de la capacidad de viajar debido a su salud o edad y me gustaría confesarme, iré a hacer una visita pastoral.
