During the week of Aug 1-7 Deacon Matt Newsome will be offering a series of online classes via Facebook Live on our parish Facebook Page giving instruction on how to pray Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours.
- Saturday, Aug 1, 8:00 am – Introduction to the Liturgy of the Hours
- Sunday, Aug 2, 10:00 am – Morning Prayer with instruction
- Monday, Aug 3 through Friday, Aug 7, 8:00 am – Morning Prayer with instruction
The opening session on Saturday will be a short introduction to the Liturgy of the Hours, their history and place in the life of the Church. During the following sessions Deacon Matt will walk participants through Morning Prayer for that day, with instruction and commentary. All sessions will be live cast at 8:00 am with the exception of Sunday’s, which will be at 10:00 am (between the Sunday morning Masses). Those unable to participate in real-time may view a recording of each session on our Facebook Page at their convenience. The goal by the end of the week will be for participants to be able to pray the Liturgy of the Hours on their own.
Participants will want to have their own copy of the Liturgy of the Hours in one of two formats published by the Catholic Book Publishing Co.:
- The single volume Christian Prayer
- The four volume Liturgy of the Hours
Either can be purchased online from Amazon.com or most Catholic book sellers. The parish has limited copies of Christian Prayer in stock in the parish bookstore. Both contain everything needed to pray Morning and Evening Prayer. The four volume set offers the full Office of Readings and is recommended for those who wish to pray the Liturgy of the Hours more extensively.
