Dear Parish Family,
Last week Tuesday we celebrated the feast day of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael on the 29th of September, while on Friday 2nd October we celebrated the memorial of our Guardian angels. Growing up as a little kid, I always held to heart my catechism class about the angels: Archangels and our guardian angels, and always felt a sense of God’s protection when and after saying the prayers to either the archangels or my guardian angel. The existence of angels is a truth of faith from both Scripture and Catholic tradition. The Catechism of the Catholic Church 328 attests to the existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that Sacred Scripture usually calls “angels”. The witness of Scripture is as clear as the unanimity of Tradition.
Who are they?
St. Augustine says: “‘Angel’ is the name of their office, not of their nature. If you seek the name of their nature, it is ‘spirit’; if you seek the name of their office, it is ‘angel’: from what they are, ‘spirit’, from what they do, ‘angel.’ “With their whole beings the angels are servants and messengers of God. Because they “always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven” they are the “mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word” (CCC 188-189).
Christ “with all his angels”
Christ is the center of the angelic world. They are his angels: “When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him. . “They belong to him because they were created through and for him: “for in him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities – all things were created through
him and for him. “They belong to him still more because he has made them messengers of his salvific plan” (CCC 191- 192).
Angels have been present since creation and throughout the history of salvation, announcing this salvation from afar or near and serving the accomplishment of the divine plan: they closed the earthly paradise; protected Lot; saved Hagar and her child; stayed Abraham’s hand; communicated the law by their ministry; led the People of God; announced births and callings; and assisted the prophets, just to cite a few examples. Finally, the angel Gabriel announced the birth of the Precursor John the Baptist and that of Jesus Christ himself, during the Annunciation to our Blessed Mother Mary. Angels are messengers of comfort, courage and protection from God.
We see angels helping people on various occasions in Scripture, but there are certain instances in which we see angels providing a protective function over a period of time.
In the book of Tobit, Raphael is assigned to an extended mission to help Tobit’s son (and his family in general). In Daniel, Michael is described as “the great prince who has charge of God’s army and Israel” (Dan. 12:1), who defeats Satan in Revelation. He is thus depicted as the guardian angel of Israel and the world. In the Gospels, Jesus indicates that there are guardian
angels for individuals, including little children. He says: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 18:10).
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by Angelic watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him or her to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.

As kids we have a greater awareness and devotion to our guardian angels, but this seems to reduce or disappear entirely when we become adults. This is not supposed to be so, but it happens that as we grow and give up myths about the tooth fairy or Santa, we tend to add our guardian angels to the list. But our guardian angels are very real and are with us from birth to
death. As they guide us, they are also constantly before the face of God praying for us. Let us make more effort to be aware of their constant presence around us always and deepen our relationship with them, asking for their prayers and guidance.

- All the Priests in the diocese are beginning our annual retreat next week Monday to Friday. There will not be any daily from Monday to Friday next week but there will be Mass on Saturday.
- October is the month of Mary and will love to encourage everyone that we say our Rosaries daily. October 13th is the 103rd anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. May our Lady of Fatima continue to pray for us for Peace, justice and reconciliation.

Ángeles
El martes de la semana pasada celebramos la fiesta de los Arcángeles Miguel, Gabriel y Rafael el 29 de septiembre, mientras que el viernes 2 de octubre celebramos la memoria de nuestros ángeles guardianes. Al crecer como un niño, siempre me tomé en serio mi clase de catecismo sobre los ángeles: los arcángeles y nuestros ángeles de la guarda, y siempre sentí la protección de Dios cuando y después de decir las oraciones a los arcángeles o mi ángel de la guarda. La existencia de los ángeles es una verdad de fe tanto de las Escrituras como de la tradición católica. El Catecismo de los Católicos I328 da fe de la existencia de los seres espirituales, incorpóreos, que la Sagrada Escritura suele llamar “ángeles”. El testimonio de la Escritura es tan claro como la unanimidad de la Tradición.
¿Quienes son?
San Agustín dice: “‘Ángel’ es el nombre de su oficio, no de su naturaleza. Si busca el nombre de su naturaleza, es ‘espíritu’; si busca el nombre de su oficio, es ‘ángel'”. : de lo que son, ‘espíritu’, de lo que hacen, ‘ángel’. “Con todo su ser, los ángeles son siervos y mensajeros de Dios. Porque ellos“ siempre contemplan el rostro de mi Padre que está en los cielos ”son los “valientes que hacen su palabra, escuchando la voz de su palabra” (CCC 188-189).
Cristo “con todos sus ángeles”
Cristo es el centro del mundo angelical. Ellos son sus ángeles: “Cuando el Hijo del Hombre venga en su gloria, y todos los ángeles con él.” Le pertenecen porque fueron creados por y para él: “porque en él todas las cosas fueron creadas en el cielo y en el futuro. la tierra, visible e invisible, sean tronos o dominios o principados o autoridades, todas las cosas fueron creadas por él y para él. “Le pertenecen aún más porque los ha hecho mensajeros de su plan salvífico” (CCC 191-192).
Los ángeles han estado presentes desde la creación ya lo largo de la historia de la salvación, anunciando esta salvación de lejos o de cerca y sirviendo a la realización del plan divino: cerraron el paraíso terrenal; lote protegido; salvó a Agar y a su hijo; detuvo la mano de Abraham; comunicaron la ley por su ministerio; dirigió al Pueblo de Dios; nacimientos y llamamientos anunciados; y ayudó a los profetas, solo por citar algunos ejemplos. Finalmente, el ángel Gabriel anunció el nacimiento del Precursor Juan Bautista y el del mismo Jesucristo, durante la Anunciación a nuestra Santísima Madre María. Los ángeles son mensajeros de consuelo, valor y protección de Dios.
Vemos a los ángeles ayudando a las personas en varias ocasiones en las Escrituras, pero hay ciertos casos en los que vemos a los ángeles proporcionando una función protectora durante un período de tiempo.
En el libro de Tobit, Raphael está asignado a una misión extendida para ayudar al hijo de Tobit (y a su familia en general). En Daniel, se describe a Miguel como “el gran príncipe que está a cargo del ejército de Dios e Israel. (Dan 12: 1). Quien derrota a Satanás en Apocalipsis. Por tanto, se le representa como el ángel de la guarda de Israel y del mundo. En los Evangelios, Jesús indica que hay ángeles de la guarda para las personas, incluidos los niños pequeños. Él dice: “Mira que no desprecies a uno de estos pequeños; porque les digo que sus ángeles en el cielo siempre contemplan el rostro de mi Padre que está en los cielos” (Mat 18:10).
Según el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica:
Desde su comienzo hasta la muerte, la vida humana está rodeada por la intercesión y el cuidado vigilante angelical. Al lado de cada creyente se encuentra un ángel como protector y pastor que lo lleva a la vida. Ya aquí en la tierra la vida cristiana participa por fe en la compañía bendita de

ángeles y hombres unidos en Dios.
Cuando somos niños, tenemos una mayor conciencia y devoción por nuestros ángeles de la guarda, pero esto parece reducirse o desaparecer por completo cuando nos convertimos en adultos. No se supone que sea así, pero sucede que a medida que crecemos y abandonamos los mitos sobre el hada de los dientes o Sancta, tendemos a agregar nuestros ángeles de la guarda a la lista. Pero nuestros ángeles de la guarda son muy reales y están con nosotros desde el nacimiento hasta la muerte. Mientras nos guían, también están constantemente ante el rostro de Dios orando por nosotros. Esforcémonos más para ser conscientes de su presencia constante a nuestro alrededor siempre y profundizar nuestra relación con ellos, pidiendo su oración y guía.

- Todos los sacerdotes de la diócesis están comenzando nuestro retiro anual la próxima semana de lunes a viernes. No habrá ninguna diaria de lunes a viernes la semana que viene, pero habrá misa el sábado.
- Octubre es el mes de María y le encantará animar a todos a que recen nuestros rosarios diariamente. El 13 de octubre es el 103 aniversario de las apariciones de Nuestra Señora de Fátima. Que nuestra Señora de Fátima continúe rezando por nosotros por la paz, la justicia y la reconciliación.
