Dear Parish Family,
The grace, peace, blessings and protection of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. I keep you all in my prayers daily. Due to the limited exposure of the Corona virus within the Parish, Masses were suspended to prevent further exposure and to allow for the individual clergy infected and others exposed to quarantine and self-isolate. We have reasons to thank God that this came to light before the weekend Masses and not after. The Parish has taken measures to have the Church deep cleaned while the pews are regularly disinfected after each Mass by the White glove’s ministry.
I as your Pastor after eight days of isolation and initial negative test have taken another test with the results showing negative on 10/29/2020. Fr Marcel Amadi one of our Campus ministers in the Diocese of Charlotte celebrated the Eucharist for us last weekend. We thank him for accepting to drive the distance. God willing, after a negative test and the required period of isolation for your safety, daily celebration of the Eucharist should resume with Morning Mass, adoration and confessions this coming Friday, while the weekend and daily Masses will resume as usual both in St. Mary’s and WCU. May God continue to bless, protect and guide us through all our anxieties.
Thank you for your support of our parish and immerse generosity. A family has paid for the Parish’s Formed.org subscription for the next year. COVID-19 has changed many things this year, and unfortunately it has impacted the finances of our parish, particularly when we are unable to hold in person services. Our offertory levels have fallen tremendously for the month of October due to the above after dipping lower last month, and we are currently way below our budget. We are struggling to continue to pay for our recurrent expenditure/bills and limited part-time staff. We are appealing to both parishioners who are not able to attend Masses in person, or those who visit during the Summer and Fall months that you prayerfully consider donating using our online giving platform, the link for which is on our website. Those who attend Masses in person during the weekend could also consider our online giving platform or the offertory basket.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments as Jesus explains in last Sunday’s gospel: Love of God and love of neighbor. “Love of God is not possible without love of neighbor. Human beings are images of God. St. John’s letter explains, “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates his brother is a liar; for whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother” (1 John 4:20-21). This means that the first law, love of God, is determined by the second law, love of neighbor. Love of neighbor is the only channel through which we can love God. Love of neighbor is the step on the ladder through which we climb to God. As we celebrate All Saints this Sunday 1st, we pray that God will bring this pandemic to an end, protect us all and heal those who are sick through the intercessions of all the Saints. November is a month to remember all our departed loved ones and pray for all the dead. We will celebrate All Souls on the 2nd with two Masses by 9 am and 6:30 pm bilingual. You can write the names of those you know who have died in the Parish book of the dead. God bless you all.

Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary on Plenary Indulgences for the deceased faithful in the current pandemic, 23.10.2020. This year, in the current circumstances due to the “Covid-19” pandemic, the Plenary Indulgences for the deceased faithful will be extended throughout the entire month of November, with adaptation of works and conditions to guarantee the safety of the faithful.
- a.- the Plenary Indulgence for those who visit a cemetery and pray for the deceased, even if only mentally, normally established only on the individual days from 1 to 8 November, may be transferred to other days of the same month, until its end.
- b.- the Plenary Indulgence of 2 November, established on the occasion of the Commemoration of all the deceased faithful for those who piously visit a church or oratory and recite the “Our Father” and the “Creed” there, may be transferred not only to the Sunday before or after or on the day of the Solemnity of All Saints, but also to another day of the month of November, freely chosen by the individual faithful.
The elderly, the sick and all those who for serious reasons cannot leave their homes will be able to obtain the Plenary Indulgence as long as they join spiritually with all the other faithful, completely detached from sin and with the intention of complying as soon as possible with the three usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer according to the Holy Father’s intentions), before an image of Jesus or the Blessed Virgin Mary, recite pious prayers for the deceased.

La gracia, la paz, las bendiciones y la protección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con todos ustedes. Los mantengo a todos en mis oraciones todos los días. Debido a la exposición limitada del virus Corona dentro de la parroquia, se suspendieron las misas para evitar una mayor exposición y permitir que el clero individual se infectara y otros se expongan a cuarentena y se autoaislen. Tenemos razones para agradecer a Dios que esto salió a la luz antes de las misas de fin de semana y no después. La parroquia ha tomado medidas para que la Iglesia se limpie profundamente mientras que los bancos se desinfectan regularmente después de cada misa por el ministerio del Guante Blanco.
Yo como su Pastor después de ocho días de exposición y prueba inicial negativa, tomé otra prueba con resultados negativos el 29/10/2020. El P. Marcel Amadi, uno de nuestros ministros del campus en la Diócesis de Charlotte, celebró la Eucaristía por nosotros el fin de semana pasado. Le agradecemos por aceptar conducir la distancia. Puede escribir los nombres de las personas que conoce que han muerto en el libro parroquial de los muertos. Dios los bendiga a todos.

Decreto de la Penitenciaría Apostólica sobre Indulgencias Plenarias para los fieles fallecidos en la actual pandemia, 23.10.2020. Este año, en las actuales circunstancias por la pandemia del “Covid-19”, las Indulgencias Plenarias para los fieles fallecidos se extenderán a lo largo de todo el mes de noviembre, con adecuación de obras y condiciones para garantizar la seguridad de los fieles.
- a.- La Indulgencia Plenaria para quienes visiten un cementerio y recen por el difunto, aunque sea solo mentalmente, normalmente establecida solo en los días individuales del 1 al 8 de noviembre, podrá ser transferida a otros días del mismo mes, hasta su final.
- b.- La Indulgencia Plenaria del 2 de noviembre, establecida con motivo de la Conmemoración de todos los fieles fallecidos para quienes visitan piadosamente una iglesia u oratorio y rezan allí el “Padre Nuestro” y el “Credo”, podrá trasladarse no solo a el domingo anterior o posterior o el día de la Solemnidad de Todos los Santos, pero también a otro día del mes de noviembre, libremente elegido por los fieles.
Los ancianos, los enfermos y todos aquellos que por motivos graves no puedan salir de sus hogares podrán obtener la Indulgencia Plenaria siempre que se unan espiritualmente a todos los demás fieles, completamente desprendidos del pecado y con la intención de cumplir cuanto antes. con las tres condiciones habituales (confesión sacramental, comunión eucarística y oración según las intenciones del Santo Padre), ante una imagen de Jesús o de la Santísima Virgen María, recitar oraciones piadosas por los difuntos.
