Learn to Pray the Liturgy of the Hours Online

Adult Education Liturgy

Nov. 28 – Dec. 4 at YouTube.com/StMaryMotherofGod

Join Deacon Matt the first week of Advent to learn how to pray Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours. The Liturgy of the Hours (aka the Divine Office) is a powerful means of sanctifying daily life by praying in union with the Church. Our class time will focus on Morning Prayer but will enable you to pray any of the other hours.

While there are online apps for the Liturgy of the Hours, this class is designed to help participants learn to pray with the printed editions. To get the most from the class, participants will need to have either a copy of the single-volume Christian Prayer, or the four-volume set The Liturgy of the Hours, both published by Catholic Book Publishing Company. These may be obtained from the parish shop, Amazon.com, or any online Catholic bookstore.

Nov. 28 will be an introductory class covering general information about the purpose and structure of the Liturgy of the Hours. Then from Nov. 29 through Dec. 4, Deacon Matt will walk us through Morning Prayer each day, providing instruction and commentary, so that by the end of the week you will be able to navigate your prayer book on your own. This is a great way to add extra prayer to your observance of Advent – but be warned, you might not want to stop once the season is over!

Saturday and Sunday’s classes will be at 10:00 am, and classes Monday through Friday will be at 8:00 am. All sessions will be broadcast on our YouTube channel and will last approximately 30 minutes (Saturday’s class may be a little longer). Participants who view the class live will be able to interact and ask questions via chat. All classes will be available to view on our channel at your convenience after the end of each session.
