Dear Parish Family,
The grace, peace, blessings, and protection of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Due to the limited exposure of the Corona virus within the Parish, Masses were suspended to prevent further exposure and to allow for the individual clergy infected and others exposed to quarantine and self-isolate. We have reasons to thank God that this came to light before the weekend Masses and not after. The Parish has taken measures to have the Church deep cleaned.
I, as your Pastor, eight days after exposure and an initial negative test; I have taken another test and await the result within 2-5 days while still isolating. Fr Marcel Amadi one of our Campus ministers in the Diocese of Charlotte will be celebrating the Eucharist for us this weekend. We thank him for accepting to drive the distance. God willing, after a negative test and the required period of isolation for your safety, daily celebration of the Eucharist should resume with Morning Mass, adoration and confessions this coming Friday. May God continue to bless, protect, and guide us through all our anxieties.
The first reading reminds the people of Israel of how God brought them out of the land of oppression in Egypt and they should treat better the poor and less privileged in their midst. It mentions aliens, widows, orphans, and the poor. These guiding rules are as important to us today as they were in the time of Exodus considering how badly aliens, immigrants and refugees are currently treated in many parts of the world. Also, xenophobia has become a worrisome problem in many parts of the world. Unfortunately, too, in many countries, governments’ and institutions’ policies favor the rich and the powerful, leaving the poor and the underprivileged to their fate.
Answering the question, “Which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” Love of God is not possible without love of neighbor. Human beings are images of God. St. John’s letter explains, “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates his brother is a liar; for whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother” (1 John 4:20-21). This means that the first law, love of God, is determined by the second law, love of neighbor. Love of neighbor is the only channel through which we can love God. Love of neighbor is the step on the ladder through which we climb to God. Where there is no love of neighbor, there is no love of God. Jesus makes it clearer when he says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).

Lamentablemente, también, en muchos países, las políticas de los gobiernos y las instituciones favorecen a los ricos y poderosos, dejando a los pobres y desfavorecidos a su suerte.
Respondiendo a la pregunta: “¿Qué mandamiento de la ley es el mayor?” Jesús dice: “Amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente… Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. Toda la ley y los profetas dependen de estos dos mandamientos “. El amor a Dios no es posible sin el amor al prójimo. Los seres humanos son imágenes de Dios. La
carta de San Juan explica: “Si alguien dice: ‘Amo a Dios’, pero odia a su hermano, es un mentiroso; porque el que no ama a su hermano a quien ve, no puede amar a Dios a quien no ve. Este es el mandamiento que tenemos de él: el que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano ” (1 Juan 4: 20-21). Esto significa que la primera ley, el amor de Dios, está determinada por la segunda ley, el amor al prójimo. El amor al prójimo es el único canal a través del cual podemos amar a Dios. El amor al prójimo es el paso en la escalera por la que subimos a Dios. Donde no hay amor al prójimo, no hay amor a Dios.
