This past Saturday, Feb. 12, fifteen couples renewed their wedding vows during the 7:00 PM Vigil Mass at St. Mary’s. This was done in honor of World Marriage Day, observed on the second Sunday of February each year. World Marriage Day is sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter and associated with the Catholic Marriage Encounter movement. It’s purpose is to “honor husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society” and to “salute the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life.”
Fr. Paul Asoh observes that Valentine’s Day is too often associated with erotic love or infatuation, but married couples give honor to true self-giving love in their everyday sacrifices and enduring devotion to their spouses and families.
